Government Boosts Public Transport in Kigali Through Public-Private Partnership
This collaborative effort between the government and private entities not only expands the public transport infrastructure but also fosters economic growth and job creation in the region. The initiative is poised to enhance accessibility and convenience for residents while contributing to the sustainable development of Kigali’s transportation system.
The Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD) is set to sign financial agreements with the five companies that have acquired the newly designated public transport buses. The loan facility provided by BRD covers approximately 70% of all the brand-new 70-seater buses, facilitating the seamless integration of these vehicles into the city’s public transport network.
In a significant move to enhance public transportation in Kigali, the government has allocated one hundred buses through a public-private partnership, with eight successful bidders set to operate the fleet. The diverse group of beneficiaries includes established players and cooperatives, each contributing to the expansion of the city’s public transport system.
